COACHING PHILOSOPHY

Scott J. Medeiros, iPEC & Maxwell Leadership Certified Professional Coach

I believe everyone has the ability and power to succeed; however, I also believe that success can be defined only by the individual, not society. Many exhaust time trying to achieve what others deem to be important versus focusing on what truly matters to them. I believe what is valuable is only determined by the person seeking it. I believe our experiences and upbringing shaped who we are today, but they do not determine who we will be. Each of us has a choice, each day and every day, to stay on the path we are on or to step off in a new direction. It is not what is outside that holds us back; it is what is inside. I believe true change takes courage, and such courage is present in everyone. True contentment does not happen by chance; it is earned through overcoming adversity.

My beliefs are the cornerstones of my coaching philosophy. The client determines who they want to be and what they want to achieve. They have the power to change, to create a purposeful life and career, and to enjoy true contentment. What is important to them is important to me. My commitment is to partner with my clients to create awareness, help them remove covert gremlins, assumptions, interpretations, and limiting beliefs, determine what they truly want, assist in creating action plans, and hold them accountable to the commitments they have made to themselves. There are no guarantees; no one is immune to failure. True change or achieving one’s dreams takes perseverance and courage; the client must believe they have the power to create their life and career the way they want.   I am with my clients from start to finish, through the dead ends and the breakthroughs, the setbacks and the triumphs, from discovering who they are to becoming who they want to be. As long as the client is committed to the journey, so am I.  The client is the expert in their life, and I am an expert in the coaching process; we both must be fully engaged. I have no tolerance for mediocrity.  Both client and coach are accountable and responsible for their half of the partnership. Honesty and candor are essential at all times, as is an unbiased, nonjudgmental, confidential environment. Together, and under these conditions, extraordinary results are possible.

My beliefs and philosophy may not align with everyone. Potential clients must consider what approach best suits them, how committed they are to the coaching process, and how willing they are to be held accountable for their actions and inactions. If a no-nonsense, no-excuse method resonates, I look forward to the voyage.
